(8-6-22) While America awaits the start of high school football season…down under in Australia high school rugby teams are playing in front of large crowds.
On Saturday in Sydney during an Australian high school boys rugby match between St. Joseph’s College and St Ignatius Riverview, which was won by St. Joseph 35-20, part of the railing in front of the stands of the Lycart Oval collapsed and several rows of spectators landed on each other and the concrete.
The incident occurred towards the end of the match in front of approximately 15,000 fans.
Ambulance personnel responded promptly to the scene and it was reported that no one was seriously injured in the incident.
The collapse occurred a few days after NSW Premier Dominique Perotet failed to approve the $50m upgrade and citing budgetary pressures, specifically the floods.
