(10-14-22) 1st year Akron North Head Football Coach Doug Miller and North’s athletic director, Carrie Stewart, reached the decision to suspend the remainder of the football season on Tuesday. Entering the season, the Vikings had 28 players on the roster…eligibility and injuries left the roster to around 15 players.

Miller told News 5 Cleveland –
“It’s definitely not ideal and definitely not what we hoped for at all — or foresaw. I think really the last four weeks we’ve been holding things together with shoe strings at times. You feel bad for your seniors. They’ve only been with me for a year but they’ve been here for four. They don’t get to finish their last two games. This was our homecoming and our senior night. That’s definitely one of the toughest things that I have to do, making a decision and breaking the news: two things I never want to have to make as a head coach.”
The Vikings are 1-7, 0-3 on the season and canceled last night’s game against Akron City Series leader Buchtel and its season finale at Garfield on Oct. 22.
While there is disappointment at North…City Series rival Garfield, is facing disappointment too.
Garfield coach Kemp Boyd told the Akron Beacon-Journal:
“We are making plans to try to get a Week 10 game. For us, it is our Senior Day and our Homecoming. Not only do we need to find a game, but we are hoping that somebody is willing to come play here on a Saturday.
The Viking are a D II school in Region 5.
