(2-11-23) For 37 (38 overall) consecutive years the Carmel Greyhounds girls swim and dive team has won the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State title. The current streak is the longest in the US for anyhigh school sports team in any sport.

This year they set a new State Meet record with 498 points beating 2nd place Fishers who was 2nd with 233 points,-. Previous record 479 (Carmel 2021). Margin of Victory (265) is the third largest all-time.

How did they do it? They captured 10 of 12 state title.

Molly Sweeney wins her second individual title of the day! Sweeney is the champion of the 100 Breaststroke in :59.78! Hounds go 1-2-3! Vivian Wilson (2nd) 1:01.54, Lucy Enoch (3rd) 1:02.85

Berit Berglund becomes the 12th individual in IHSAA history with 4 state titles in the same event! Berglund wins the 100 backstroke in :51.80! Hounds go 1-2 with Keira Kask (2nd) in :54.78! Kayla Barr is 12th in :57.08

Lynsey Bowen sets another STATE RECORD in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:42.81!! She had set the record last night in 4:43.42, which topped her record set in ’22! Lexi Ward is 2nd in 4:46.36 and Alyssa Street 6th in 4:55.95!

Carmel Shatters National High School Record in 200 Medley Relay; Berit Berglund, Molly Sweeney, Alex Shackell and Meghan Christman clocked a time of 1:36.98, marking not only the first sub-1:38 performance in scholastic history, but the first sub-1:37 showing. The old record was by Fort Collins Fossil Ridge HS who went in a time of 1:38.13 in 2018

Current Head Coach Chris Plumb took over the program midway thru the streak in 2007 and now has won 17 consecutive titlea as the head coach. During the streak there have been four other coaches…Ray Lawrence (6 overal titles, 5 during the streak) , Tony Young (9 titles), Ken Stopkotte (3 titles) and Tom Burchill (3 titles).

Before the Streak and after the streak

Carmel won their 1st state title in 1982 when the meet was held in Muncie at Ball State. The Greyhounds edged Anderson 123-116. Four year later in 1987 the first of 37 consecutive titles streak would start,

The 1st ever state meet was in 1976 that was won by Munster they would follow that up with 2 more titles. Ben Davis would win the next three. Carmel won the next one…followed by Columbus East, two in a row by Anderson and the last team to win before the streak started was Columbus North.
