(3-21-23) Tonight at Portage Central in a MHSAA Division 3 quarterfinal game Brandywine (25-2) picked up a 71-62 win over Pewmo-Westphalia (19-7). The Bobcats will be making its first ever trip to the state finals.

Brandywine led at half time 36-32…the two teams traded the lead in the 4th quarter, the Bobcats took back the lead at 65-62 for good on a Byron Linley 3-pointer with 1:57 remaining…but the Pirates would not score in the remaining time.

Brandywine had balanced scoring with five players in double-figures and was led in scoring by Nylen Goins with 19 points, Byron Linley with 15 points, Jaremiah Palmer added 12 points, Michael Palmer with 11 points and Jamier Palmer added 10 points.

The two teams combined for 19 3pt FGs in the game.

The Pirates Grady Eklund led all scorers with 30 points (8 3pt FGs) and Jamison Eklund added 23 points.

With the win Brandywine advances to the Final Four at the Breslin Center on Thursday afternoon at 2pm and will play Traverse City St. Francis in the 2nd semifinal game. St. Francis won their quarterfinal game beating St. Ignace 72-44. In the other semifinal game on Thursday at noon Flint Beecher will take on Ecorse. The winners will play for the State title on Saturday at 4:30pm.
