Concerns from community members when tonight’s Celina Schools BOE agenda was released when it did not include any mention about the baseball situation.

Celina City Schools Superintendent Dr. Ken Schmiesing in an email reply to the Outlook –

Our AD, Derek Wenning, is planning to include the ’24 spring sports supplementals on the July Board meeting Agenda.

No other details were provided.

(6-12-23) Parents of Celina baseball players have been airing their displeasure with the the direction of the program.

Concerns include, the firing of a JV coach and an assistant coach, blocking parents from the Celina Baseball Facebook page, belittling players, extreme profanity, threatened players about next season, coach showing up late to practices and sometimes not even showing up and encouraged certain Seniors to quit.

The concerns are directed at Head Coach John Dorner. Dorner for many years was the Head Coach at St. Henry including a state title and was inducted into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014.

According to several parents the above complaints have been voiced to Celina school officials and BOE members.

Celina City Schools Superintendent Dr. Ken Schmiesing in a reply to the Outlook about the situation-

All supplemental contracts are one-year contracts. I will be meeting with our AD later this week regarding our Spring coaches for Celina City Schools’ athletic programs of boys’ tennis, track, baseball, and softball for the 2024 season.
