(8-16-23) Two days until the first Friday night of Ohio High School football to start the season. A tweet from WCPO’s Mike Dyer quotes the OHSAA’s Tim Stried –

“I just can’t think of a better place to have the football state finals.”

He’s talking about Canton on the far eastern side of Ohio.

So why is the OHSAA having a ‘love affair‘ with Canton? Good question!

It can’t be because of the increase of attendance at the state football championship games.

No one knows exactly what the perks are for the OHSAA to go to Canton for the state football playoffs. Why is that? The non-profit (wink, wink) OHSAA should share all (even the added perks) of the details of the agreement for the state tournament games

The OHSAA already gets all of the ticket money from football tournament games, while schools competing in the finals pay the majority of their travel expenses…it’s not cheap.

Why are football coaches and member schools not involved in the selection process, if you remember the football coaches didn’t want the added week of tournament play…but yet it was approved by the association.

What are the reasons for not playing any or all of the OHSAA tournaments in a somewhat central part of the state? Can’t find a suitable site or the best terms…not a good reason.

Here is a thought if Canton is a great location for the football state tournament games…let’s move the OHSAA headquarters there.

Let’s say it again…does the OHSAA realize they are working for the member schools, not the other way around.
