(4-16-26) Rocky River (Ohio) High School varsity baseball coaches have resigned after a recent incident in Myrtle Beach, SC.

A message sent to parents said head coach Ed Piazza and assistant coach Michael Harper both have resigned after the incident —

“Dear Rocky River Baseball Families,

“We are sharing this update for families who were unable to attend today’s 3:30 PM meeting in the RRHS Auditorium.

“On the evening of Friday, April 10 and into early Saturday morning, April 11, an incident occurred in Myrtle Beach involving members of the Rocky River High School baseball team. Upon learning about the event, district and building administration ensured all players were safe, contacted Rocky River Police Department, and began investigative processes.

“As part of that process, baseball practices and games were postponed to allow time for the investigation to be completed.

“Following the investigation and subsequent meetings with staff, Head Coach Ed Piazza and Assistant Coach Michael Harper have resigned, and the District has accepted those resignations.

“Craig Moro, current assistant baseball coach, will serve as Varsity Head Coach. We are committed to supporting our student-athletes, coaching staff, and families for the remainder of the spring season.

“We appreciate the patience and support of our families as we move forward.”

Assistant coach Craig Moro will take over as head coach for the remainder of the season.

A look at the coaches involved/-

Head Coach: Ed Piazza (resigned April 2026). He had been the head coach since around 2022–2023 (previously at Elyria HS) and led the team to a 2025 district championship.

Assistant Coach: Mike Harper (also resigned April 2026).

Current Acting/Interim Varsity Head Coach: Craig Moro (previously an assistant).

School officials did not say what that incident was, but they said it happened in Myrtle Beach and involved members of the baseball team.

The team recently participated in the South Atlantic Bank Invitational tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC. An undisclosed incident occurred involving team members on the evening of April 10 into early April 11, 2026. Following an investigation, Piazza and Harper resigned, and the district accepted the resignations.

Details of the incident have not been publicly specified beyond it involving team members during the trip.

The Pirates are scheduled to play at home today in a conference game with Valley Forge.

It has been reported that at least one of the two adults traveling with the team visited a strip club in the coastal city, according to a Philadelphia TV station. The district would not confirm the report.
