(4-21-26) It seems that the Celina City Schools Board of Education at last night’s monthly meetings has plans for the new athletic facilities. A few surprises to many were discussed during the meeting.

The total cost for Phase 1 of the master facility plan, which includes the construction of a new track and field/football stadium, will be around $1.5 million. Adding synthetic turf would add an additional cost of $988,334, and upgrading the track base with post-tensioned concrete would add another $554,212, totaling an additional $1.55 million.

Pros and cons… synthetic turf field would have to be replaced every 10 to 12 years but would eliminate that upkeep of watering, marking, striping, mowing and the other maintenance associated with a grass field.

The track and the new football field would be located at the current site of the track now in place behind the current high school building.

No mention was made about the Celina Stadium and what plans are being planned for it. It is assumed that varsity football games would continue to be played at this location.

During the meeting it was brought up about the use of or lack of use of the Celina Fieldhouse.

March of last year the board voted to spare the Fieldhouse from demolition and to make use of its locker rooms and other amenities.

But in 2021 voters were told a different scenario on the use of the Fieldhouse.

The Board implied that future high school basketball games will be played in a new gymnasium once the grades 7-12 school building has been completed. Although no details of that new gym have been released.
