(7-19-26) St. Henry trailed Bellefontaine 3-0 through five innings this afternoon in Kalida, held quiet by Maddox Miller (Sr) and a Chieftains team playing fearless baseball. Aven Caudill (Jr) and Lincoln Banta (Jr) did damage all day for Bellefontaine.
Then the 6th came, and nobody in the St. Henry dugout blinked. Tate Boeckman (Sr) singled, the walks piled up, and Drew Buschur (Jr) cleared the bases with a double to right. Four runs to take the lead, six more in the 7th to put it away. Final: St. Henry 10, Bellefontaine 4.
Just last week the St. Henry Jr. ACME team did the same thing in Bryan, falling behind 8-0 and clawing all the way back. The younger group came up short, but the identity is identical. These kids grow up playing together, and teams that know each other that well never think an inning is out of reach. That’s not luck.
They Picked Me went to Austin Kunk (Sr), and it’s hard to imagine a better pick. His day had a little of everything, including a diving catch on a liner right back at him and the win on the mound when the comeback was complete. Kids who show up and keep playing, that’s what the shirt is about, and that was Kunk today.
And keep an eye on Drew Langenkamp (Sr). The Bowling Green commit doesn’t say much, he just plays, and he was right in the middle of the rally. A kid like that spending his summer in a St. Henry uniform with the guys he grew up with tells you everything about why this program keeps winning.
Credit to Bellefontaine, who led the defending ACME State Champions for most of the afternoon and never backed down. That’s a program on the rise.
St. Henry advances to Sunday’s 1:00 PM semifinal against Archbold, and that one has everything: the defending champs against a team that just rode a 13-strikeout gem in Game 1. Come out to Kalida.
