(8-3-26) Dayton Archbishop Carroll High School’s head football coach Mike Pomfret is no longer the coach or a teacher after being put on administrative leave effective July 31, 2026. Carroll Principal Matt Sableski confirmed that today.
No details but according to media sources it was due to “an on-field incident at practice” following an incident during the team’s football camp at Ohio Dominican University.
Pomfret, is a Carroll Highly School alum and was named the Patriots head football coach in January 2025.

The Interim Head Football is Coach Mitch Weitz.
Background on Mitch Weitz
• Carroll High School Class of 2017 alumnus (played football as a WR/SS/OLB/DE; listed around 6-4, 195 lbs). He also played freshman football at Mount St. Joseph University.
• Longtime connection to the school: grandson of longtime English teacher Jim Hemmert and son of Bookstore Manager / Freedom Players Director Toni (Hemmert) Weitz ’86. He has worked on the facilities/maintenance team and remains involved in the school’s House System (he was a Genesis Captain for Baltimore House / Family Room 113).
• Head Boys Bowling Coach (has received GCL Coed Coach of the Year recognition, including multiple times). The athletics staff directory lists him as Interim Head Football Coach and Head Boys Bowling Coach
Sableski said in a statement-
“We are confident that Coach Weitz and our coaching staff will provide the leadership, support, and stability our players need as they move forward together.”
Carroll is scheduled to play Stebbins in the season opener on August 32st.
