(3-22-17) Celina’s Sawyer Weitzel has signed to continue her college diving career at D1 Duquesne University , who is a member of the Atlantic 10.
Weitzel will long be remembered by Bulldog fans for qualifying for the OHSAA State diving championships for all four years of her high school career. This season the Senior won the WBL Diving Championship and finished in 8th place at State. As a Junior Weitzel finished in 10th at the OHSAA State Meet, her Sophomore year (2015) she finished 13th and as a Freshman (2014) she finished 11th.
During the summer Weitzel won the Tri-County League Diving Championship for the Coldwater Cudas.
Weitzel comes in on the ground floor as Duquesne recently announced the reinstatement of the diving program for the start of the 2017-2018 season.
Earlier this year Coldwater’s Caleb Keck signed his letter of intent to swim at West Virgina University (DI-Big12), his coach at WVU is Celina native Michael Grapner.
