(3-26-17) Colleyville Heritage’s (Texas) Alex Scherff is this week’s SSN National Baseball Player of the week.
Scherff (6’2 Senior) is a Texas A&M signee, threw a five-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in a 17-0 win over Fort Worth Dunbar this past week. His last appearance before that game he threw a five-inning perfect game with 14 strikeouts of the 15 hitters he faced in a 15-0 win over Fort Worth Eastern Hills
Before transferring to Heritage (where he played as a Freshman) , Scherff led Plano Prestonwood Christian to a Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 5A state championship as a junior.
Heritage Head Coach Alan McDougal told the Dallas News’ Sports Day:
“He’s been extremely efficient. He’s a power arm that can pitch, which to me is extremely rare when you look at the prep pitchers. So when you put those two abilities together, he has the ability to keep us in games and do some things in a very effective manner. The draft attention is there because of the combination of the high velocity and the ability to pitch.”
Scherff is a MaxPreps 2017 Preseason Baseball All-American Team and is considered a MLB 1st round draft pick thanks to his 96-97 mph fast ball.
