(4-30-17) This week’s SSN National High School Softball Player of the Week is Plainfield’s (Indiana) (C-1B) Ashton Slone.

Slone (Senior)currently has a 40-game hitting streak going, on Thursday (4-27-17) vs Martinsville *** she was walked intentionally five times in the Quakers’ 9-7 win, despite not having an official at bat, she helped her team by scoring three runs. The last time she did not have a hit was she went 0-for-3 as a Sophomore on May 25, 2015 against Avon. She is one of just five hitters to ever have a 40 or more game hitting streak in records kept by the NFHS. Her next chance to extend her streak to 41 games is this Tuesday (5-2-17) vs. Decatur Central.

***In baseball, a hitting streak refers to the number of consecutive official games in which a player appears and gets at least one base hit. According to the Official Baseball Rules, such a streak is ended when a player has at least 1 plate appearance and no hits. A streak shall not be terminated if all official plate appearances result in a base on balls, hit by pitch, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt. The streak shall terminate if the player has a sacrifice fly and no hit.
