Boys Lacrosse: SSN National Public High School Rankings

(5-22-17) Darien continues to hold down the #1 ranking in this week’s SSN National Public High School Boys Lacrosse Rankings.

Hartland Michigan State Champs

#2 Severna Park will play this week for the Maryland 3A/4A state title,  #3 Cherry Creek picked up the 5A Colorado state title and #10  Hartland, ranked for the first time this year, won the Michigan State Championship.

Grayslake North drops out of the rankings after losing their second game of the season to New Trier 14-6.

SSN National Public HS Rankings – May 22nd

  1. – (1) Darien (Conn) 17-0 –Darien’s Kevin Lindley, who broke the school record for goals in a season with 76 (old record was 74 in 2000).
  2. – (2) Severna Park (Md) 19-0 will play for Maryland’s 4A/3A boys’ lacrosse Championship.
  3. – (4) Cherry Creek (Colo.) 18-1 Won Colorado 5A State Championship
  4. – (6) Cold Spring Harbor (NY) 16-0
  5. – (6) West Linn (Ore) 18-0
  6. – (7) Wakefield Memorial (Mass) 16-0 – Led by seven goals from senior Austin Collard, Wakefield remained undefeated with a 18-8 win over Beverly
  7. – (9) Atlee (Va) 14-1
  8. – (5) The Woodlands (Texas) 23-1
  9. – (3) Weddington (NC) 19-1
  10. – (NR) Hartland (Mich) (18-0)

Dropped out-

UPDATED: Petry perfect in LWSB run rule win over Minster

Above game was after this story was released yesterday, Petry throws the perfect game in a win over Minster.

 

(5-15-17) This week we have two Players of the Week, two freshman pitchers from Greenville, Ohio combined to pitch two-perfect D II state sectional tournament games in a row, Caitlin Christman and Baylee Petry.

The two ‘Green Wave‘ aces helped Greenville in their first two D II Sectional games, beating Dayton Dunbar 18-0 and following that with a 17-0 win over Trotwood-Madison.

Against Dunbar it was a ‘perfect‘ perfect game as both pitchers combined to strike out all 15 hitters in the 5 inning game win.

In the Trotwood-Madison game, Petry had 7 strikeouts and Christman added four more K’s in the 5 inning win.

The two combined for 26 K’s out of the 30 outs in the two games.

On the season Petry has won 20 games, has a 1.02 ERA, while offensively she is hitting .439 with 23 RBIs.  Christman on the season has a 1.64 ERA on the year.

Greenville Head Coach Jerrod Newlan told the Daily Advocate after the Dunbar game:

“Both pitchers are freshman pitchers. Petry’s had a great season. We hope to continue that until we end in Akron. This was a unique opportunity today, and all the girls got to play. We are getting ready to dodge some bullets coming up though as the games get tougher. ”

Boys Lacrosse: SSN National Public HS Rankings – 5-15-17

www.lax.com – In a meeting between two of the top high school lacrosse programs in the state of Colorado, Cherry Creek beat Kent Denver 11-3 at the Stutler Bowl.

 

(5-15-17) Darien continues to control the top spot in this week’s SSN National Public High School Boys Lacrosse Rankings.  #2 this week is Severna Park who moves up a spot and continues to build on their 32 game winning streak.  Slipping to #5 this week is The Woodlands who lost to Episcopal School of Dallas 11-8 in the semi-finals of the Texas Lacrosse D I State Championships.

Grayslake North suffered it’s first loss of the season losing to private school power house Loyola Academy 12-4 and drops from #7 to #10.

The rest of the Top 10 all moved up one spot from the week before.

Shawnee Wins 2017 SSN National Public HS Baseball Championship

(5-14-17) Shawnee is the 2017 SSN National Public High School Baseball Rankings Champion. The Wolves finished a perfect season(40-0) picking up their third consecutive 5A Oklahoma State Baseball Championship this weekend beating Claremore 12-7.

Shawnee Head Coach Todd Boyer told news-star.com after the championship:

“If you had told me at the beginning of the season that we would win 40 straight, I’d have told you that you were crazy… There’s so many variables that can happen throughout the ballgame with high school kids. It’s just an incredible feat.”

North Gwinnett continues to win and is still ranked #2.

#3 La Cueva, who started the season with a loss, reeled off 28 straight wins and beat Cleveland 10-4 this weekend for the New Mexico 6A State Championship. The title is La Cueva’s fifth in the last ten years.

La Cueva’s Senior center fielder Ryan Phillips told the Albuquerque Journal after the state final game:

“We stand as a team. The past 28 games has been a fun ride.”

Two teams,  Huntington Beach and Owasso, dropped out of the rankings this week after both picked up their fourth loss of the season.

Earlier this year, Neuqua Valley baseball coach Robin Renner was inducted to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the “skipper” gives his thoughts on the award.

Two northern schools take their place for the first time this season, Neuqua Valley (28-1-1) and Saline 22-1.

Three schools moved up to #4, #5 and #6 after this past week, Massillon Jackson, Spring Hill and Rancho Bernardo.

Baseball:Oyster River’s (NH) Brennen Oxford Named SSN National Player of the Week

(5-14-17) – Oyster River’s (New Hampshire) Brennen Oxford (Junior, LHP) is this week’s SSN National High School Baseball Player of the Week.

Oxford pitched his third consecutive no-hitter on May 10th beating Laconia 4-0, striking out 15 and walking 5.  On May 3rd he beat Pembroke 3-0 , striking out 8 and walking four, his first of the three no-hitters was on April 27th in 9-0 win over Goffstown.

Over his last four appearances he now has 23.2 hitless innings of baseball.

Laconia Head Coach John Meyers told fosters.com:

“Honestly, we haven’t seen somebody throw that hard in a couple years. (Oxford) has very good presence. He’s certainly very confident in his curveball, mixes it up so well it is hard to get our timing down.”

Oxford has verbally committed to play his college baseball at Wake Forest

(5-8-17) Darien continues as the #1 ranked team this week in the SSN National Public High School Boys Lacrosse Rankings, followed closely by #2 The Woodlands who will play for a Texas State Title in Katy this weekend.

#3 Severna Park continues to look strong at #3, West Linn moves up one spot to #6 and Grayslake North moves up two spots to #7.

Two new schools join the rankings this week, Wakefield Memorial is #8 at 13-0, while Cold Spring Harbor, who is on a 21 game winning streak enters at #9.

SSN National Public High School Baseball Rankings – May 8th, 2017

(5-7-17) Shawnee has now won 49 straight games, 37-0 this season, and will try and pick up a third straight Oklahoma State championship this week.  The Wolves look to be hard to knock off in the final week of the tournament, the most solid ‘team’ in the US from top to bottom.

Making the biggest jump in the rankings this week is La Cueva, from #6 to 3#, who won four games this past week and only gave up one run in the process.

One new team cracked the rankings this week for the first time is West Monroe (home of Duck Dynasty). The Rebels haves been playing well as the season winds down and are headed to the Louisiana State Championships and land at #8 this week.

Massillon Jackson represents teams from the North and moves from #10 to #7 and picks up their 4th  Federal League title.

Spring Hill fell again this week to #9 from #4 after a 9-1 loss to Independence.

Decatur, who had been a main-stay in the rankings this year drops out this week after finishing the season with two straight losses to Cullman in an Alabama Class 6A baseball quarterfinal playoff series.

(5-7-17) This week’s SSN National Softball Player of the Week is Lacey Township’s (NJ) Chelsea Howard (Sr P).

Howard pitched a perfect game this week in a 9-0 win over Southern Regional for the Lions, getting 19 of the 21 outs by strikeout.

Howard also was 2 for 3, including a home run, with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Howard will continue her softball career at DI Binghampton University.

BASEBALL: Dimond’s (Alaska) Sean Gardeline Named SSN National Player of the Week

(5-7-17) – This week’s SSN National Baseball Player of the Week is Dimond’s (Alaska) Sean Gardeline (Sr P).

Gardeline threw a five-inning perfect game, including 8 strike outs,  to lead Dimond to a 17-0 win over Bartlett  ( Friday) in a Cook Inlet Conference  game at Mulcahy Stadium.

The CIC baseball season in Alaska is a seven-game, 16-day regular season that began on Monday and is the shortest in Alaska high school sports. Each CIC team will play just one game against each conference member before the league tournament.

The 2017 season was not helped by a cooler than normal spring and a lack of indoor practice facilities due to the collapse of The Dome in Anchorage. Teams had to find any place they could to practice and work out..

 

Boys Lacrosse: SSN National Public HS Rankings – 5-1-17

(5-1-17) Darien continues to be #1 in this week’s SSN Boys Lacrosse National Public High School rankings.

Two new teams enter the rankings, Grayslake North (12-0) at #9 and Upper Arlington re-enters at #10 after being out of the rankings for a couple of week.  They replace #4 Mauldin, who lost in the South Carolina play-offs and #8 Neuqua Valley who lost to Hinsdale Central 9-5.

#3 Severna Park continues to win (11-0) and now has the longest winning streak in Maryland with 29 straight wins.
