2021 SSN All-Mercer County Softball Team, Coldwater’s Wendel Named Player of the Year

(5-12-21) Last year was a disappointing season in Ohio High School Softball as the entire season was wiped out by the pandemic. But not this year…Mercer County softball came back with a BANG!

Coldwater and Ft. Recovery finished the regular season with impressive records. While they were doing that they had several impressive individuals step up during the season in a big way.

The first was this year’s SSN’s All-Mercer County Player of the Year Coldwater Freshman Madison Wendel, she did it with both her bat and in the circle. During the season she broke numerous school records and is already knocking on the door of MAC career numbers.

Right behind her for POY consideration was Ft. Recovery Junior Jackie Homan, she was the key to the Indians solid season and like Wendel had big numbers at the plate and in the circle.

The two are joined by a very talented group of players from the county.

Coldwater had three other players named to the team, including another Freshman Claire Steinke, Junior Macy Sheffer and Senior Molly Steinke.

Joining Homan from Ft. Recovery is Chloey Grisez (Jr) and Brenna Homan (Sr) who just broke the MAC record for steals in her career…despite not playing last season.

Filling out the line-up is Parkway’s Claire Langenkamp (Sr) and Meg Henkle (Fr), St. Henry’s Carlee Rethman (Soph) and Celina’s Payton Bertke (Soph).
