The RPS 205 as of now has not approved the termination of DuBose or the hiring of Ambrogio as the new head coach. The Board is scheduled to meet tomorrow night and supposedly will hear both items, but have not been involved to this point. This puts the system into a position of having two head coaches under contract at this time at Jefferson.
Ambrogio would give RPS 205 all head football coaches who came from local privates Christian schools –
- Auburn – Dan Appino – Boylan
- East – Gary Griffin – Rockford Lutheran
- Guilford – Bruce Bazsali – Rockford Lutheran
- Tony Ambrogio – Rockford Christian Life
This adds some more issues with the RPS 205 football programs, last year several Auburn players kneeled during the National Anthem in protest, now players at Jefferson have boycotted a practice over the firing of their coaches. No statement yet from RPS 205 officials on the latest situation.
The first practice for high school football teams is today (8-7-17) with Jefferson players reporting at 4 p.m. The announcement should mean for a smooth transition for the J-Hawks, who went 4-5 last year with Ambrogio guiding the offense.
Ambrogio came to Jefferson after a strong four-year run as head coach and athletic director at Rockford Christian Life. His teams went 26-14 in those four years, qualifying for the playoffs in Class 1A or 2A the last three seasons. Ambrogio favors a spread-style passing offense and under his guidance Jefferson set several school passing records this past season.
Mat Parker, Director of Athletics, Activities and Program Development
“Tony has specifically chosen to be at Jefferson and has been instrumental in turning the J-Hawks Football program around. His experience as a head coach, athletic director and his commitment to student athletes will ensure the continued success of the program.”
Ambrogio replaces Ken DuBose, who is being terminated as the head coach and coached Jefferson the past two seasons.
Jefferson opens its season on August 25th at home against Harlem in the NIC 10 openers.
