(9-21-17) Two communities gathered tonight in Coldwater to watch two of the best girls volleyball teams in Ohio, St. Henry and Coldwater. It turned out to be a big night for the Cavaliers who beat their neighbors to the south in three sets.
But there were no losers tonight (‘Pack The Palace’ night), since both sides were dedicating the game and raising needed funds to help Jessica Steinecker, who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Both communities were a part of the night, there was a bake sale, a raffle (cash prizes and gift certificates from both communities), hamburger sales, donations were accepted and a 50-50 drawing, with most of the winner’s prize ($790) be given back to help Jessica. Two rivals working together to help one of their own, that’s the way it should be.
After the match, Jessica Steinecker:
Last night meant so much to me. It was amazing to see everyone there wearing there pink supporting me. I am so moved every time I see our communities coming together for a cause. I never imagined it would be for me. I can’t thank everyone enough for continuing to support my family! Nothing would be possible if not for your support.
The Steineckers live in St. Henry, but this is a mixed marriage (tongue in cheek) Jessica is a St. Henry grad and Cody graduated from Coldwater. The Steineckers have 4 children Ethan, Owen, Jacob, and Briella. The community support they saw tonight and since she was diagnosed with cancer is a credit to two communities who take care of their own.
Today on the Facebook page – Hope, Courage, Strength, Fight for Jessica – Jessica posted this update:
Really starting to feel some scanxiety! New set of scans coming this Monday! So far on eribulin I can’t complain much besides a lot of hair thinning. Back to hats everywhere 😒. Better than bald though. We will find out the results of scans on October 3rd!
Thanks to everyone who continues to think of myself and my family. Tonight they are “Packing the Palace” in Coldwater for the volleyball game and last week was the Cara Siefring Campout in Rossburg. We honestly can’t thank everyone enough! Keep prayers going that I see NO active cancer next week!
Coldwater and St. Henry, it was a special night for the Steinecker family, the example you have set will inspire all of us for a long time.
