(10-11-17) The South Adams girls volleyball has had a good run the past several years, the Starfires can thank to of their two Seniors, Julia Grabau and Madi  Wurster, for their contributions during that run.

Grabau enters tournament time with over 2,300 assists during her career and Wurster has over 1,000 kills.

South Adams Coach Ashley Buckingham

Julia Grabau will be a 4 year letter winner for South Adams. She has over 2,300 assists as we begin postseason play. She is an outstanding leader on the court and a solid performer that is crucial to the team’s success. She has really driven our offense this season and her ability to deliver the ball where the hitter needs it has been superb. She was named First Team All-Conference in 2016 and was instrumental in leading the team to a Regional Title. She also is very coachable and does a great job of having a consistent mentality on the court. Julia also excels in the classroom, and she qualified to be nominated for Academic-All State honors in Indiana this season.

 South Adams Coach Ashley Buckingham:

Madelyn Wurster will be a 4 year letter winner for South Adams. She has hit 1,015 kills in her career leading into postseason play. She has been an offensive weapon for us hitting 1,000 of her kills in the past 3 years of play hitting from both the right side of the court and the middle attacker position. She does a great job of adjusting to the ball and working to make a play happen. She also possesses a strong desire to win and is a great encouragement to her teammates. She was named First Team All-Conference in 2015 and 2016. She is currently on the Under Armour All-American Watchlist and she plans to play in college at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne.

The Starfires open Sectional tournament play at home on Wednesday (10-12-17 – 730pm) when they take on Woodlan. The Starfires enter the post-season at 22-9.  Last season South Adams advanced to the 2A State Semi-Finals where they lost to Whitko 25-22, 25-14, 25-22, falling just two matches short of a State title.
