(5-31-18) Coldwater advances to the D III Baseball Championship game with an 11-0 run-rule state semifinal win over Minford.
It was Minford’s first trip to the Final Four, while Coldwater will advance to its 10th state final.
Coldwater dominated the game scoring 11 runs on 10 hits, Sam Broering led the way with 3 hits and scoring three times. PH Alex Wourms had a hit and 2 RBIs as did DH Seth Miller who had 2 RBIs and scored a run. Eight Cavs had at least one hit and they did it in just 5 innings.
Helping out Coldwater was four Minford errors, in what turned out to be a nightmare first trip to state.
Coldwater’s Brad Giere gave up just 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 1. It was a tough day for the two aces for Minford, Freshman Evan Vogelsong went just one out in the 2nd inning giving up 7 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits, while Ethan Lauder who came in finished the game giving up 6 hits, walking one and striking out 1 and giving up 6 runs (1 earned).
Coldwater advances to Saturday’s State Final, to be played at 1pm against South Range who beat Madeira 7-0.
