(7-4-18) Ft. Recovery grad Nick Thwaits has signed to start his pro career with the San Diego Padres and will now head to Peoria, Arizona to get his pro baseball career underway. Thwaits was a MLB 15th round draft selection and the 441st pick overall, San Diego had until Friday to sign him. With the move he will forgo a college career at Kent State University.
Overshadowing Thwaits signing today was the signing yesterday of the Padres overall #1 pick, left-handed high school pitcher from Loretto (Tennessee) Ryan Weathers. Weathers, 18, went 10-0 with a 0.09 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 76.0 innings pitched as a senior in 2018.

San Diego has now signed 27 of their 41 players selected in the draft, as well as two non-drafted free agents.
