(10-28-18) -In most US states Bellmont would have already packed away all of their football equipment for next season, had their football banquet and would be looking forward to the upcoming basketball season. In Indiana that is not the case, every high school football team is a part of the season-ending playoffs, plus their is no seeding, just a blind draw. For Bellmont they are just fine with that kind of set-up for the playoffs.

When the regular season ended the Bellmont Braves would head into the first game of the sectional without a win 0-9, that’s correct no wins. Like many have said over the years-

when it comes to the start of the playoffs, the record doesn’t really matter everyone starts out at 0-0.

  • Class 3A – Section 28 Bellmont, Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran, Garrett, Heritage, Lakeland, Norwell, West Noble

Bellmont drew Garrett for the 2018 Sectional opener, the Braves would win that opener beating a 2-7 Railroaders team 16-6. Not much fanfare, but a nice time for their first win and a chance to play again.

This past Friday Bellmont opened a lot of eyes around Indiana when they beat Ft. Wayne Concordia 28-20, who entered the game with a 5-5 record.

The Braves trailed by seven points entering the fourth quarter, Johnathon Wilder would throw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Lehman to make it a 21-20 game. Bellmont’s Colin Mills who had three carries for  82 yards and two touchdowns, scored the game-winner on a 58-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Highlights of Bellmont’s win over Ft. Wayne Concordia

This week Bellmont will play for a Sectional title when they face Ft. Wayne Bishop Luers (7-4), who beat West Noble 45-21 on Friday, the Chargers ended the season with an 8-3 record.

So don’t count out the Braves chances of winning a sectional title next week? Especially when you consider that Bishop Luers beat Concordia on September 7th 34-31 in 2 OT, it should be a good match-up.
