(12-7-18) Former Belvidere Head Football Coach Matt Weckler has stepped down as the head coach at DeKalb.

Weckler’s resignation was announced at the DeKalb Board of Education meeting last night.

Weckler told the Daily Chronicle:

“This was probably the easiest decision and the most difficult decision I’ve had to make in a long time. For me, I had to make the decision between coaching other people’s kids or watching my own. As much as I love coaching here at DeKalb High School, I thought it was the right decision to support my son and my family. My daughter, [Madison], will be playing middle school volleyball and everything. I think a lot of people take watching their kids in activities for granted. For me to not do that … that’s what made me foster the decision.”

His son, Mason, will be a sophomore at Belvidere North in the fall of 2019 and is a member of the Blue North football team.
