(2-20-19) The Greenville City School Board of Education will make it official on Thursday night when they hire Bart Schmitz as the new head football coach.

Last season Schmitz, a 2004 graduate of Versailles, was the offensive coordinator for the Green Wave.

Greenville Athletic Director and former Wave football coach Aaron Shaffer told

“We went through the interview process – Bart has extensive experience as an assistant coach, as a coordinator, has had good experiences as a Versailles alum, played under Al Hetrick. His experience through his high school playing days and then his coaching experience with guys like Dick Roll (Lehman Catholic), some of those experiences coaching with his dad (Dave Schmitz), his uncles and things like that who had extensive experience at Versailles and other places as well.”

Schmitz replaces Shaffer who stepped down as football coach after his seventh season as the Green Wave’s football coach. His overall record coming into the 2018 season was 17-45 and went 3-7 this year this past season.
