Szymczak took over in St. Marys in the summer of 2015 after leaving, Hugoton Kansas after three seasons as the boys head basketball coach. During those three seasons coaching in Kansas, Hugoton went from 3 wins to 11 wins and 14 in his last season. His record was 28-35, but over the last two seasons he was 25-17.
