(11-8-19) Google says it is a 6 mile 10 minute trip from New Bremen to Ft. Loramie, that makes the OHSAA D IV State Volleyball Championship a ‘Backyard Battle’ between the two rivals.

The two met during the regular season on September 21st with the Cardinals picking up a 4 set win (25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17) over the Redskins.

Last season New Bremen lost to Tiffin Calvert in the D IV title game ( 12-25, 25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 15-10 )

Tomorrow afternoon at the Nutter Center, just down the road in Dayton, each will be trying to pick up their second title in the last five years. In 2017 New Bremen won the title over Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas (23-4), 25-9, 25-18, 25-4, while Ft. Loramie won in 2014 beating McComb 25-15, 26-24, 25-27, 25-22.

In the first D IV semifinal match the second-ranked Cardinals had to go to a 5th set before picking up the win 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 19-25, 15-13 over #4-ranked Monroeville.

Taylor Paul led New Bremen with 23 kills in the match, Claire Pape had 43 assists and one service ace and Diana Heitkamp had 13 digs for New Bremen.

In the  second semi-final 3rd ranked Fort Loramie (26-1) won in four sets 25-16, 27-25, 20-25, 26-24 over Newark Catholic.

McKenzie Hoelscher had 14 kills and Maya Mauer had 30 assists and 14 digs and Macy Imwalle added 17 digs.

The two neighbors will match-up in the Division IV State final match Saturday afternoon at 3 pm..
