(11-9-19) Bellmont entered the IHSAA Class 3A State Volleyball Final at Worthen Arena as a  big underdog, but they gave top-rated Brownstown Central a scare in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21,  34-32, 25-19) loss.

Bellmont did in the first set what no other team had done to Brownstown Central during their tournament run…they won… 25-23 and took a 1-0 match lead.

In the 2nd set Brownstown Central would have to come back after trailing Bellmont 13-7 to pick up the 25-21 win.

In an all-out war Brownstown Central would hang on for a 34-32 extended 3rd set win, Bellmont was just one point way from winning the set at 24-22 and taking a 2-1 lead.

Brownstown Central would control the 4th set and win 25-19 and pick up the school’s first ever state championship in any sport in its 104 year old existence.

Bellmont was led by Sophie Krull with 20 kills and 13 digs, Emilee Scheumann added 17 kills, Sarah Noonan had 47 assists and 11 digs and Rachael McBride had 26 digs.

Brownstown Central had three hitters in double-figures led by Kendra McCory with 22 kills, Addie Wilkerson with 14 and Kayla Guthrie with 10. Reagan Nuss had 47 assists, Riley Nuss had 22 digs and 3 service aces.
