(5-16-20) In one of the most unusual situations that has happened in the history of athletics (at all levels), Ft. Recovery’s Payton (Petey) Jutte (6’4) was one of the victims and has a new home due to those circumstances to continue his college basketball career at Holy Cross College.
For Jutte and athletes at D II Urbana University it was a shock when the school decided to close at the end of the Spring semester…that would send athletes scurrying from every sport looking for a new home.
For Jutte, a Ft. Recovery grad, it took less then one month to decide to become a Saint. Jutte had numerous opportunities, including IU-South Bend, Goshen College and Wheeling University.
In April of last year Jutte had committed to Thomas More University, where he played with limited time during his short stay (after the assistant coach that recruited him had left) and would decide to transfer at the end of the Fall Semester. Jutte made the move to Urbana, sitting out due to transferring, he would never play for the Blue Knights.
Jutte’s roller coaster adventure will continue next season at Holy Cross College located across the street from Notre Dame. A NAIA DII school, the Saints are members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Did you know…
Jutte scored a 1,000 points during his Indians career and was also an All-Midwest Athletic Conference 1st team selection.
Jutte will have attended three different colleges in three different states, Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana
In the movie ‘Rudy’, featuring Sean Astin, he must attend Holy Cross until he meets grade requirements to transfer to Notre Dame so he can play football for the Irish.
