(11-26-20) One ‘Hoosiers’ star knew exactly what it meant to win an Indiana High School State Basketball championship, just like his movie team Hickory did. Steve Hollar, who played Rade Butcher in the movie, was a starting member of the Warsaw Tigers basketball team that won the IHSAA 1984 title beating Vincennes Lincoln 59-56.
In that championship game Hollar had 12 points, 7 in the first quarter, in the afternoon semifinal game against New Castle he had four points, all on free throws.
One year later in 1985…Hollar was in Knightstown filming ‘Hoosiers’, one of the most successful sports movies in history. Hollar was one of the leading players in the film.
