(1-27-21) Over the years consolidation of school districts many smaller communities lost their high schools. In Auglaize County last night Wapakoneta honored one of those schools that is now a part of their district – Buckland.
In a ‘Throwback Night‘ game vs. LCC (LCC 74, Wapakoneta 71 (OT)) the Redskins became the Buckland Bucks (same red and white school colors).
Buckland has left a mark in the OHSAA history books and will forever be remembered for playing in the lowest scoring Ohio HS Boys Basketball game that took place in 1939 when they lost to county rival New Knoxville 2-0.
In 1935 Buckland had both a boys and girls basketball team, with a mostly Auglaize County schedule.
The girls were limited to who they played, due to the OHSAA deciding not to sponsor girls basketball teams in the future.
One of the last Buckland boys basketball teams was in 1964.
The last time Buckland played boys basketball was in 1965, according to records listed.
