(2-22-21) One job in high schools athletics that is very demanding is that of being the athletic director, being one during the pandemic this past year made it that much tougher.

Ft. Recovery Athletic Director Brent Niekamp told Chris Schanz of the Portland (Ind) Commercial-Review that he will return to teaching and will remain as the school’s football coach. His last day as AD will be on July 31st. He will also step down as the Transportation Director.

In a tweet by Schanz Niekamp gave his reasoning behind the change –

“I just really miss the classroom, to be honest. Between that and, just the time involved, it was a decision that (wife) Kim and I came to. Not much more to it than that.”

Niekamp who was hired in April of 2019…replaced Kurt Rammel who stepped down in November of 2018 to take a position outside the school system.
