(3-16-21) Good question! Why isn’t Lilliann Frasure an Indiana All-Star?
According to Indiana All-Star game director Mike Broughton in an Indy Star article announcing the selections –
“It was tough picking the All-Stars this year as we could have put a second All-Star team together and had a very competitive team where every member of the team would have averaged 15-plus points per game this season.”
13 players were selected to play in the game and one more — Carmel forward Bridget Dunn — who was picked but will be unable to play due to injury.
But how do you leave out Lillian Frasure…Frasure’s career totals include 2,237 points, 1,025 rebounds, 502 steals and 460 assists. (Not sure but she may drove the team bus to away games)
After the Blue Jays loss to Tipton in the State Semi-State game North Judson coach Chris Newbauer told the Post-Tribune:
“To me, she’s a top-five player in the state. To have the career numbers she’s had, I can’t imagine there are too many players in Indiana to ever have those.
“We don’t play a typical (Class) 2A schedule. We play some of the best teams around and compete, and she shows up for us every single time.
Yes there are a lot of deserving players in the state of Indiana, there are probably others who think they should have been selected but were overlooked…but Lilliann Frasure should have been a selection. This is not saying that the current selections are not worthy…but after all she was selected as a Junior, maybe Mike Broughton could reconsider…she’s a winner.
The 2021 Indiana All-Star roster includes:
Courtney Blakely (Bishop Noll), Trinity Thompson (Michigan City) Ally Becki (Brownsburg), Madelyn Bischoff (Roncalli), Katie Burton (Fishers), Kaitlyn Costner (Penn), Bridget Dunn (Carmel), Sydney Jaynes (Trinity Lutheran), Chloe McKnight (Bedford North Lawrence), Meg Newman (North Central), Vanessa Shafford (Linton-Stockton), Brynn Shoup-Hill (Goshen), Jayla Smith (Lawrence North) and Ariana Wiggins (Heritage Christian). Dunn is injured and is not expected to play in the games.
Head coach is Jeff Allen of Bedford North Lawrence, while the assistants are Donna Buckley of Noblesville and Doug Springer of Northridge.
The All-Stars will play the Junior All-Stars on June 9 before playing the Kentucky All-Stars on June 11 (in Kentucky) and June 12 (at Southport Fieldhouse).
