(4-15-21) Big news out of Western Buckeye League member Bath…the Wildcats have named former alum Kristen Holt as the new Athletic Director, while the boys basketball program will have a new Head Coach Sean Powell. Both will be official after board approval.
Just a month ago UT-San Antonio decided to make a change and did not renew Holt’s coaching contract as the Head Women’s basketball coach.
UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Lisa Campos said
“I want to thank Kristen for her hard work and dedication to the women’s basketball program and tireless commitment to the student-athletes during her tenure.”
Holt will now return to her alma mater and hometown in her new position.
Holt entered the women’s college coaching ranks following her playing career at Ohio University, where she was a four-year letter-winner, two-year captain and part of the 1988 Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team.
As a senior at Bath, Holt was named first-team All-Ohio and the Class AA State Tournament MVP in 1987 after leading the Wildcats to the state title. Holt also was a 1987 AAU All-American.
She graduated from Ohio with a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1992 and completed her master’s degree in athletic administration a year later.
This past March Powell, in just his third season at Botkins, took the Trojans to the D IV State Basketball Championship, the first in school history. He was hired at Botkins in April of 2018 after leaving Perry where he was the JV coach.
Powell replaces Adam Burris who resigned as Bath’s Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach three weeks ago.
The Wildcats were 2-21 and 12-13 during his two seasons, including the 2021 Division III Sectional Championship.
