(11-6-21) Belvidere North is headed to the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Finals after picking up a Woodstock North 3A Super-Sectional win over St. Viator 25-14, 25-22.
It is the first trip ever for Belvidere North and only the 2nd time that the NIC 10 has sent a team to the final four, that was back in 2006 when Hononegah went.
North Coach Amanda Carlson-Hicks told the Rockford Register Star after the game –
“I didn’t even think about that. It’s crazy that this conference has only had one, all this time. There have been some really, really good teams to come through here. That perspective is eye-opening.”
“We didn’t enter into the season thinking we would be this dominant, but that’s how it has turned out to be so far. But we know (at state) we will be pushed.”
- St. Viator falls to powerful Belvidere North in supersectional
- Belvidere North reaches IHSA state volleyball semifinals, make history
St. Viator senior Marie Torosian told the Daily Herald about the Blue Thunder
“We knew coming in that they were a great team. We told ourselves that we had to give it everything we had. I am so extremely proud of all of our girls right now.”
Up next for the Blue Thunder is Normal Community West next Friday (11-12-21) night at 5:30 pm at Illinois State’s Redbird Arena. West beat Taylorville 26-24, 25-21.
