(1-3-22) This fall when football starts again in Ohio Chardon will enter the season with 28 consecutive wins. The longest streak in Ohio and tied for 12th longest in the US.
The opportunity to hold the current record was thanks to Versailles upsetting Kirtland in this year’s D V State title game. The Hornets had won 55 consecutive games, just two away from tying the all-time state record of 57 held by Delphos St. John’s.
- OHSAA D V State Football Championship – Versailles Ends Kirtland Streak At 55 Games…Tigers Win 7th State Title
The last Hilltopper loss was to Aurora 22-19 on November 11th, 2019 in the playoffs.
The Chardon streak started in 2020 (shortened pandemic season) going 12-0 and winning the D III state title.
This past season Chardon would win a 2nd consecutive state title…going 16-0. It was the first time an Ohio school had won 16 games in a season…thanks in part to the first year of the expanded playoffs. One other school ended the year in Ohio with a 16-0 record…Marion Local.

I coached against Chardon for the last 10 years and there is something about the tenacity, grit, violence and speed to the ball that can’t be found in many teams. Plus the coaching staff has been together and are like brothers. Every year they produce a defensive line though not very big but destructive to offenses. I wish they were NOT in our Conference!!!!
