(1-24-22) Just like Buddy in Hoosiers, who left the Huskers and returned a few games later…Perry High School has reinstated Clay Tucker as their boys head basketball coach.

At a special Perry Board of Education meeting, Tucker rescinded his letter of resignation and was reinstated in a unanimous 5-0 vote.

Tucker resigned due to personal reasons as Perry’s head coach on January 14th. Perry was 10-2 on the season when he stepped aside. Assistant Coach Mark Hoersten served as the interim head coach for two games, with wins over Minster and Ridgemont.

Tucker and Perry are scheduled to play tomorrow night against Bath.

Perry Press Release –

”The Board of Education for Perry Local Schools has supported the recommendation of Superintendent, Kelly Schooler, to revoke the resignation of Clay Tucker as the boys’ head basketball coach.

Tucker acknowledged his resignation, which came after making a mistake in regards to demonstrating professionalism with his players and students, was submitted prematurely with the intention of reducing the distractions to the program and district. He acknowledges his mistake and has learned from it,

“I acknowledge I made a mistake by sending a text to the team that contained humor at the expense of others. I have learned from this humbling experience and I will be a better person and coach.”

Perry Local Schools emphasizes that reconciliation with those involved has been reached. We commend the love found in families who advocate for their children and the strength that love builds within their children. We would like to extend our high praise to our boy’s basketball team, as well as interim coach Mark Hoersten and the rest of the coaching staff, for demonstrating perseverance, unity, drive, and determination throughout this experience.

Perry Local Schools would also like to extend our sincere appreciation for the Perry Community. Throughout all of the ups and downs over the past few difficult years, your support has been tremendous and for that, we are truly thankful.

Moving forward, we are confident as a district that Coach Tucker will demonstrate the highest standards for our students. Out of respect for all involved and an eagerness to move forward for our students, no other statements will be forthcoming from the district.”
