(3-1-22) Winnebago (34-2), the #2A No. 1 ranked team in the final Associated Press poll, will play Fieldcrest (34-2) in the state semifinals at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Redbird Arena in Normal.

Winnebago beat Chicago DePaul College Prep 66-47 to advance.

It is the fourth bid to the state finals for the Winnebago, who have never finished higher than their third place from 1992.

Winnebago was led by senior Renee Rittmeyer with 22 points and six rebounds, scoring nine points in the fourth quarter. Ella Provi had 10 points, scoring seven in the fourth quarter.

Winnebago has been red-hot at the end of the season with 13 straight wins. It will be fourth time for the Indians to reach the state finals.

The Indians will fave Fieldcrest in the 2A semi-final game. The Knights beat No. 5 Chicago Noble Street Butler 43-40 in Monday’s Class 2A Morton College Supersectional. Fieldcrest came from behind trailing by seven-points in the fourth quarter to pick up the win.

Fieldcrest had four players in double-figures Ella Goodrich had 11 points and eight rebounds, while Ashlyn May, Carolyn Megow and Kaitlin White all added 10 points.

The Knights’ Kaitlyn White (Soph) told Shaw Media after the game:

“It’s really amazing. It’s a great opportunity. We made it this far, and we knew that we could push even farther and we did. We didn’t give up. There was a time we were down and we just kept pushing our hardest, and we got here.”

This will be the first state finals appearance in program history for the Knights, who extended their win streak to nine games.

The other semi-final game

The other 2A semi-final game on Thursday scheduled for a 2:30pm start will feature Pana taking on Quincy Notre Dame. Pana advanced by beating Carterville 64-56, while Quincy Notre Dame beat Normal University 30-28.
