Portions of story from San Jose Giants web site

(4-10-22) Ohio State product and Celina grad Seth Lonsway made his debut for the 2022 season with an impressive 4 inning relief performance yesterday in San Jose’s win over Modesto. Giants pitchers Will Bednar, Trevor McDonald and Lonsway combined on a three-hitter and a 3-1 win.

Lonsway was credited with the win in his San Jose Giants debut. He pitched the final four innings with no runs and one hit allowed, two walks and six strikeouts. Lonsway was a sixth round pick of the San Francisco Giants in 2021 out of Ohio State.

Lonsway issued a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh inning, but quickly escaped thanks to a double play and a lineout. Lonsway then fanned two in a perfect eighth inning. With the lead still at two runs, Lonsway began the bottom of the ninth with consecutive strikeouts. Clase then lofted a fly ball down the right field line that dropped in front of the warning track and resulted in a triple — the first hit allowed by Lonsway during his outing. A full-count walk to Ford followed to put the potential tying run on base, but Lonsway settled back down and struck out Arroyo swinging to end the game and the Giants to win #1.

Thwaits debut back home in Ohio

The Fort Wayne TinCaps rallied late, but lost their 2022 opener Friday night to the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate), 6-5, on Friday night at Day Air Ballpark.

In relief of Felix Minjarez, Fort Recovery High School (OH) alum Nick Thwaits shined in his TinCaps debut back in the Buckeye State. Thwaits went a scoreless two innings with four strikeouts of his own. As a pair, Minjarez and Thwaits fanned nine of the 12 batters they faced.
