(4-16-22) The Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association inducted WPGW’s Rob Weaver into its Hall of Fame recently…the award was presented on Sunday, April 10th at Valle Vista Country Club in Greenwood.

Rob Weaver, WPGW, Portland – Radio Rob is in his fifth decade of serving listeners in Portland, Jay County, and surrounding counties in both Indiana and Ohio. Rob has been the voice of the Jay County Patriots since 1976. Rob and his wife Mindy are the station owners of WPGW in addition to WZJR in Portland and WZBD in Berne. Rob was the winner of the Marv Bates Award as the Sportscaster of the Year from the ISSA in 2013, and has previously been named as the Portland Citizen of the Year.

Five other HOF members were presented, Dave Calabro, WTHR-TV, Eric Hansen, South Bend Tribune, Jeff Jeffers (deceased), WNDU-TV , Barry Lewis, Crawfordsville Journal-Review and David Woods, Indianapolis Star.

At 73 Weaver still owns and operates four different stations in Portland — prior to WPGW (1440 AM & 100.9 FM), he also worked for radio stations WIUC in Winchester, and WHON and WQLK in Richmond. In 1993, Rob constructed WPGW’s sister station WZBD in Berne, Indiana and has maintained majority ownership at that station ever since.
