(6-2-22) Today many are mourning the death of Tyler Mescher. Mescher just turned 23 years old on May 6th, he was finishing up his college education at Bowling Green and was in the inclusive early childhood program and would have been certified to teach Preschool – 5th grade .and he was a 2018 Marion Local graduate.

During the 2018 season folks around the state had been overlooking the Marion Local Flyers. Mescher was a huge part of that team and will always be remembered for helping the Flyers achieve success that season.

On March 24th, 2018, with a never quit attitude, they did what many thought would not be possible, they won the OHSAA D IV State Boys Basketball State Championship in a classic double-overtime win over Cornerstone Christian 52-51.

It was a game that was not decided until the final buzzer in the second OT, right after Mescher hit both free throws after being fouled underneath his own basketball with just 2.6 seconds remaining. Those free throws will always be remembered by the Flyers faithful.

Mescher in that game was just a rebound away from a double-double with 18 points and 9 rebounds , including 2-2 at the free throw line that put the Flyers ahead to stay in the second overtime.
