Moonlight Graham’s (played by Burt Lancaster) Wish

(6-29-22) 117 years ago in 1905 Archibald ‘Moonlight’ Graham played in his only Major League baseball game with the New York Giants. But thanks to Kevin Costner and one of the most popular baseball movies ever made, ‘Field of Dreams’, he became a legend.

The movie took Graham’s actual baseball career and being a doctor and turned it into a a big part of the film. Making the movie in a way a small tribute to Graham and his life.

The actual game that led to Graham’s one shot in the majors – On Thursday, June 29, 1905, New York Giants rookie outfielder Archie Graham made his major league debut, playing the last two innings of a one-sided 11-1 victory over the Brooklyn Superbas. The twenty-five-year-old was the next to bat when the last out was recorded in the top of the ninth inning. After playing right field for the final three outs, he headed into the visitors’ clubhouse, not realizing that it would be his only appearance in a major league baseball game.

In ‘Field of Dreams’ the young ‘Moonlight’ Graham was able to hit against Major League players…making his dream come true.
