(7-14-22) It doesn’t get any better than this…in the opening round of the 2022 Iowa 4A State Baseball Tournament it will be the ‘Battle of Waukee’. The winner moves on to the next round in pursuit of a state title, but it just as important to both teams to win this game and keep Waukee bragging rights.

Substate finals and how the two advanced to the State Championships.

Waukee Northwest advances to state in their first season in a pitching duel 1-0 win over Valley. Anthony Watts struck out 11 and allowed three hits on just 88 pitches in seven innings. Wolves scored their only run in the sixth inning to win and move on to state.

Waukee picked up a 9-4 win over Southeast Polk, the Warriors were led by Noah Van Wyk, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI and 8 total bases… Camden Kaufman struck out nine over six innings.

The two will play on Tuesday (July 19th) at 2pm at Duane Banks Baseball Stadium, the winner will advance to the semi-finals vs. the winner of the Johnston-Iowa City Liberty game on Thursday July 21st.

Did you know…

Splitting Waukee into two schools has turned out to be a big success in the first year…still competitive and still winning. There are a lot ‘what ifs…’ had the split never happened, but it has been a positive move for everyone.

Both Waukee and Waukee Northwest softball teams advanced to the IGHSAU Class 5A State Championships, for the two to meet they would both have to advance to the state title game.
