(9-23-22) In June of 2022, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors approved the use of 35-second shot clock in high school basketball in Illinois for the 2022-23 season for regular season tournaments and shoot-out events. The shot clock may not be used in any other regular season game, and it will not be used during the state series. Events that wish to use the shot clock must get approval from the IHSA Office in advance of the event. All games in an approved tournament or shoot-out will be required to use the shot clock. Beginning on Friday, September 30, events wishing to use the shot clock can request an approval form by contacting Kurt Gibson at kgibson@ihsa.org.
Following each event that uses the shot clock, the IHSA Office will send a questionnaire to all competing coaches, game administration, and others to gather some general information regarding the event and the implementation of the shot clock. It’s expected that the IHSA Board of Directors will review the results of the questionnaires in the spring of 2023 to determine how the shot clock might be used during the 2023-24 season.
A complete list of approved events for the 2022-23 season will be posted on the girls’ and boys’ basketball pages at www.ihsa.org.
