(10-25-22) Olivier Rioux (7’6) (dad Jean-Francois is 6-8, his mom Anne is 6-2) who’s from Anjou, a borough in east Montreal started the school year this fall for his 2nd season in Bradenton, Fla. to attend IMG Academy. Rioux will play for IMG’s National Spotlight Blue team. Besides being able to concentrate on his basketball skills, he is gaining valuable national attention on the HS basketball scene.
During the Canada Summer Games playing for Team Quebec…Team Canada Coach Michael Meeks told SportsNet Canada –
“People see his size and their expectations are pretty high. For me, it’s the little things like his mobility and agility, how he’s moving, how he conceptualizes the game — how much fun is he having competing and playing?
“This is important because we’re in uncharted territories with Olivier, there’s never been anybody that big at that age before. So, we’re kind of cautiously optimistic that he’s definitely moving in the right direction.”
This past summer he also played for Canada’s U17 World Cup team.
The Guinness World Records recognized him last year as the world’s tallest teenager when he was 15 (now 16) and seven foot five, since that time he grew another inch. He wears a sz 20 shoe and that can be a challenge to find.
