D V Region 18 1st Round Playoff Game…North Union Travels To Coldwater

(10-25-22) Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) football power #4 seed Coldwater (9-1) will open the OHSAA D V Region 18 playoffs on Friday night against visiting #13 seed North Union (7-3).

Both teams enter the game with emotional losses in week 10, Coldwater lost to Mercer County rival Marion Local 35-0, its first loss of the season.

Coldwater was playing without starting quarterback Marcel Blasingame who was injured ( broken bone in his leg) in the OT win over Versailles. Blasingame was leading the MAC in individual rushing with 1,120 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Coldwater Coach Chip Otten told pressprosmagazine.com after the game –

“I told the players a lot of teams would want to be 9-1, and when you get beat like this it stings. You wonder if you can regroup when you don’t have your quarterback and fullback. It’s hard, and hopefully our older, big guys (seniors) can rally the troops and get us back on track.”

On Friday night North Union lost to Urbana (8-2) 38-12, one of the Hillclimbers losses this season was to the MAC member Ft. Recovery 26-21 at home. As a comparison the next week the Cavs beat Ft. Recovery 42-0.

The Wildcats loss to Urbana matched the two division winners in the Central Buckeye Conference (CBC).

North Union’s Owen Davis (Sr. 6’3 215lbs) , a two-way star (MLB, RB) and Purdue commit, will be a key for the Wildcats against the Cavaliers.

In the loss to Urbana…Davis carried the ball 26 times for 137 yards and 1 TD, on defense he had 11.5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 sack.
