(11-10-22) The Western Buckeye League (WBL) is having a year to remember during the 2022 soccer season. Two teams will play for a state title this weekend…Shawnee boys and the Ottawa-Glandorf (O-G) girls. Both teams swept the WBL titles with 9-0 records.
Shawnee (20-1-1) won its 17th in a row as forward Austin Miller had a goal and an assist in 2-1 win over Warren Howland in the Division II boys soccer state semifinal game.
Shawnee coach Ryan Quatman told the Lima News after the win –
“Austin Miller kept telling me he was getting triple-teamed and I told him he had to fight through it. He’s a monster. He’s getting marked up and he’s getting banged around. He’s going to get his opportunities. It’s hard to stop that guy. He’s a machine.’’
It will be Shawnee’s first trip to the state championship match, after reaching the state semifinals in 2001 and 2020. The Indians will play Bexley who beat D II State Champion Wyoming in OT 1-0.

O-G won their D III State Semifinal game over Akron Manchester 2-0, Senior Clara Beach scored two goals to lead the Titans. O-G was playing without Makenna Siefker due to injuries, she was this season’s WBL Player of the Year.
O-G is making its second consecutive trip to the state finals, and its third overall trip to the state finals in school history. O-G lost to Waynesville in the D-III 2021 state title game, 1-0.
Ottawa-Glandorf recorded its 16th consecutive shutout this season under coach Michelle Maag.

The Titans will play Cincinnati Country Day after they picked up a a 4-0 victory over Lynchburg Clay in the State senifinal game.
CCDS is making its fifth appearance in the state final and the Nighthawks are trying to win the state championship for the first time since 2019.
