OHSAA 2022 Volleyball State Finals, Eight Private Schools, Three MAC Schools…and the rest of the state

(11-8-22) This weekend at the Nutter Center the 2022 OHSAA State Volleyball Championships will be decided.

The Midwest Athletic Confernce (MAC) has three schools competing for a State title, MAC Co-Champions Coldwater (in D III) and New Bremen (D IV)…Versailles will join Coldwater in D III. The MAC is no stranger to having multiple teams during the state finals.

Just last season (2021) in the Division IV State Championship match that featured two MAC member when No. 2 New Knoxville (27-2) beat No. 5 St. Henry (22-7) 22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19.

Competitive Balance? May be working or not.

With 16 schools competing in four divisions and 8 are private schools that raises the eyebrows of those with concerns on the issue. All four divisions have one or more private schools… D I has 3, D II has 3…while D III and D IV both have one in the bracket.

Magnificat and Gilmour Academy both won state titles in 2021 and are back in 2022 to try and defend those championships.

Pairings include final OHSVCA state rank.
