(2-9-23) Two Indiana powerhouse athletic programs in the Indianapolis suburbs seem to have departed ways today. Carmel High School AD Jim Inskeep sent a letter to inform Center Grove AD Joe Bronkella that they want to cancel all future athletic contracts. There was no specific reason why this action was taken.

But in an Indianapolis Star story it was indicated that at a recent Center Grove boys basketball on January 6th an incident took place at the end of the game that might have caused the request.

Center Grove Principal Jeff Henderson, in an email addressed to Center Grove families

“Our athletic director was informed by the athletic director at Carmel High School that Carmel desires to cancel their contracts with CGHS in all sports. “This sudden request came as a shock, given the collaboration we have enjoyed over the last 25 years. We have reached out to Carmel to request a meeting to address any concerns they have regarding the future of our relationship.”

“Throughout the last year, we have been and continue to be guided by our goal to do what is best for our CGHS students. We want to provide our students with an athletic experience that includes competition and the support necessary to help them excel in their sports and grow into responsible young adults. We appreciate your support and patience with our administrative team and coaches, as we continue to work for what’s best for our students.”

Last year both members were ‘kicked out’ of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) add to that problem they were both denied membership in Hoosier Crossroards Conference.

After those two developments both were left to play an independent schedule this past season. Should the contracts be canceled both schools will have to scramble to fill up those open dates.
