
(2-23-23) Celina Freshman Jackson Newcomb in today’s preliminaries advanced to the D II OHSAA State finals in Canton in two events…the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Newcomb’s time of 59.85 (PR) today in the 100 breaststroke breaks the Celina school record.
Newcomb was the fastest Freshman in the 50m freestyle and had the 2nd fastest Freshman time in the 100m freestyle.
Newcomb will race in the D II finals in both events tomorrow.

Four Western Buckeye League swimmers were in the 50m freestyle. Wapakoneta’s Alex Honinford (21.27) finished with the 3rd fastest time and had the best finish of the WBL swimmers. Newcomb had the 11th fastest time at 21.97 and Wapakoneta’s Luke Wierwille finished at #16, the last qualifying time (22.10) in the 2nd division finals.
Bath’s Landon Stahler finished at 30th with a time of 22.91.

Versailles’ Zach Ahrens (58.82) had the fastest time of Stateline area swimmers finishing in the #8 spot and will swim in the 1st division finals. Newcomb, who broke the Celina school record, finished 12th with a time of 59.85. Another WBL swimmer, OG’s Grady Steffan finished 10th (59.76) and will swim against Newcomb in the 2nd division final.
St. Marys’ Marcus McClain finished in the 28th spot with a time of 1:0.94.
