(3-8-23) This Thursday at 11;45 am in Champaign at the State Farm Center…Scales Mound will match-up with Tuscola in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class A Boys Basketball State semifinal game. The winner will advance to the State Final game on Saturday at 11am against the winner of the Gibault Catholic (30-7) – Cornerstone Christian Academy (31-5) in the other semifinal game.
Scales Mound, the smallest school competing in the IHSA, is drawing a lot of attention as the Hornets return to the final four after a 3rd place finish last season. How small is Scales Mound? With a total enrollment of 70 students, they are four times smaller then their opponent Tuscola who has an enrollment of 290 students.
The Hornets are being compared to the 1952 Hebron team that won the IHSA single class state title…and of course the 1954 Indiana HS state champions the Milan Indians, who would years later be depicted in the very popular movie ‘HOOSIERS’

- The Milan Indians…More Than A Movie
What makes this story even more amazing…Scales Mound’s lineup this season is an entirely new starting five from the one that made the trip last season to the Final Four.
Standing in the way of another ‘HOOSIERS’ type ending is Tuscola, the Warriors have had a great season at 30-6 and when it comes game time look for them to be ready.
