(3-9-23) Last year Scales Mound lost in the IHSA Class A State Semifinal game, not wanting to repeat that and play the 3rd place game tonight the Hornets picked up a 40-27 win over Tuscola. That will give them the chance to win a state title on Saturday at 11 am back in Champaign when they play Gibault Catholic (31-7) who handled Cornerstone Christian 70-46 in the 1st semifinal game.

Comparisons with the Single-class state champion Hebron team of 1952 and Hickory in the movie ‘Hoosiers‘ has made this game one of interest statewide and around the country. A win would solidify their spot in basketball lore.

Their opponent has veteran Head Coach Dennis Rueter and has been a coach since 1980…he has a career record of 764-419, so don’t expect him and the Hawks to feel sentimental towards the Hornets.
